What’s the process to buy my eyeglasses online?
I don’t want to waste time going to take my eye exam again and in a rush to find a eyeglasses that I don’t really like. So how do I buy them online? I heard you need a precription? where and how can I get mine?
Generally, eyeglass prescriptions are good for 2 years, so if you had an eye test recently, you should be able to get a copy from wherever you had it done. If it has been more than 2 years, or you think your vision might have changed, get a new eye test & ask for a copy of the prescription. Once you have the prescription, you will also need your PD (that is the distance between your pupils on center) the eyeglass place needs this measurement to cut the lenses so that when they are in the frame, you are looking through the center of each lens (not everybodys eyes are the exact distance apart). Legally, they have to give you a copy of your prescription, but they don’t have to give you the PD. Fortunately, most of the eyeglasses web sites have instructions how to measure it. Once you have the prescription, look at it (before you leave) and have them explain anything you can’t read or can’t understand (sometimes their writing is really messy or they use special terms/notations and you don’t want to wind up with the wrong glasses by accident)! Then go on the site you want to buy from, pick out the frames, lens options, etc that you want. Be VERY CAREFUL when entering the prescription numbers that you have everything correct (+/- signs & decimal point locations are very important!) Double & tripple check it before confirming the order!
You could also just order empty frames on-line and have your local optician put the lenses in for you. There are many sites to buy glasses from.
